Mandar Mountains: Holy Religious Tourism
Mandar mountain should be called the pride and glory of religious tourism. Yes, the mythological and historical significance of the Mandar mountain makes it distinctive.
This very sacred and religious place of Hindus is famous globally. The
Mandar Mountains in District Banka of Bihar province of India are
considered as churning of the sea churning. Thus, the ancient Mandar
mountain is considered a place of faith for centuries.
It is also called Madaranchal. In fact, Mandar Parvat is located in
Bansi in Banka district. It is popularly believed that Lord Vishnu
always dwells on Mount Mandar. Hence, there is immense reverence among

It is believed that Mandar Parvat was used as the churning of the sea
churning between the Devas and Danavas. Hence, for Hindus, Mandar

mythological saga of Samudra Manthan.
About 700 feet high of black granite stone, this mountain is very
visible. Particularly, hundreds of ancient sculptures, caves, temples,
etc. engraved on the magnificent and beautiful rocks of Mandar mountain
express religious, mythological and cultural pride.
The idols of Mount Mandar are believed to be of the late Gupta period.
There is a divine grand temple of Lord Vishnu on the highest peak of
Mandar mountain.
In this temple the footprints are inscribed. It is believed that this
verse is the mark of Lord Vishnu. However, those who believe in Jainism
believe it to be the mark of the Tirthankara Lord Vasupujya. Many
beautiful idols are seen on the rocks of Mandar mountain.
Among them are idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Singh Vahini
Durga, Mahakali and Narasimha etc. According to experts, the Mandar
mountain is considered to be the main center of the Vaishnava sect.
The famous Vaishnava saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has given special importance to the Mandar mountain in his life journey.
The Papaharani pond located at the foothills of Mandar mountain has
special significance. It is popularly believed that bathing in this pond
helps in getting rid of leprosy.
A grand fair is organized here on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
After taking a bath in this pond situated at the foothills of Mandar
mountain, devotees offer prayers to Lord Madhusudan. Devotees accept
yogurt chuda and sesame laddus as special offerings.
All the necessary resources are available to visit Mandar Parvat. The
nearest airport is Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Airport Patna. The
nearest railway station is Banka Junction. Tourists can also visit
Mandar Parvat by road.
